Soukena is the newest work from Artistic Director Madeleine Twyman, choreographed on The Blue Institute Dance Company for their 2025 tour. Inspired by the life of Soukena Roussi, an influential art and fashion visionary from New York City’s Lower East Side, the piece explores resilience, creativity, and the ways we navigate life’s complexities. Through dynamic movement, layered symbolism, and emotive storytelling, Soukena celebrates the brilliance and legacy of a trailblazing spirit who reshaped the world around her. Continuing Twyman’s exploration of duality and identity, this work fuses contemporary aesthetics, and theatrical expression to uncover the beauty and depth of the human journey.
